Call before putting it in writing

Written statements, including emails, may be discoverable depending on the circumstances. This means they may have to be disclosed in a legal proceeding. Whether a communication is protected by attorney-client privilege or another protection depends on the circumstances.

Please call before writing an account of your matter or sending documents. If you need to email to arrange a call, provide only your name and callback number. Do not include facts, explanations, a timeline, or attachments.

What we can talk about

The first conversation is a chance for you to explain your situation and ask questions. I will want to understand what matters to you and whether I can help. We can discuss the information needed, possible next steps, and what working together would involve.

I also speak Hebrew and Russian. You can discuss your concerns in the language you feel most comfortable using.

01

Start with a call

Call to arrange a conversation. I will explain what information I need before asking you to discuss the details. Mention any upcoming court date or deadline during the call.

02

Keep existing documents available

Keep any existing agreements, notices, court papers, and correspondence available. Please wait until we discuss which documents I need and how to share them before sending anything.

03

Think about what matters most

What worries you? What would you like to resolve? What do you need to understand before deciding how to proceed?

Have you used ChatGPT or Claude?

If you have used OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude to explore your legal concerns, tell me during our call what you learned and what you believe it means for your situation. I use AI in my practice too, and I welcome questions about the answers you received.

You may not know which facts or subtle legal distinctions matter, and an AI answer may not account for them. We can discuss what may be missing and whether your understanding needs to change. You do not need to prepare a written summary or send your AI conversations before we talk.

How I approach AI and your legal questions

Ask the questions you need answered

  • Can Paul help with this kind of matter?
  • What information would Paul need to understand my situation?
  • Are there any dates or deadlines I need to address right away?
  • What options could I discuss with Paul?
  • What would Paul’s representation include, and what would it cost?
  • How would Paul and I communicate if we work together?

Your initial consultation is free

It is an opportunity to discuss your needs and whether we should work together. Any representation, its scope, and fees require a separate agreement. You should understand those terms before deciding.

A call or email does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship. An email callback request should contain only your name and phone number, with no details of your matter or attachments.

If a date is approaching

Call 212-380-7343 and mention the relevant date. Do not rely on an email response to meet a deadline. Contacting me does not extend a deadline or mean I have agreed to take action.
